Floor Texturing

Another fairly short tutorial, this one will show you how to texture individual sides of a room with seperate textures.

As you have probably noticed, a room often looks unusual when all of the walls, the ceiling and the floor have the same texture. This tutorial will introduce the user to one of QOOLE's more powerful features: scoping.

The first step is to create a simple room, add a player start and scatter a few lights around, try to make the lighting not even, this will help you look at how a texture looks under different lighting effects. It is helpful to have some understanding how lighting affects your level, it is a very powerful weapon in your level editing arsenal, learn how to use it well.
Once you have your room completed with start and lights the next step is to scope down onto your level, this will have the effect of temporarily separating your room into its individual component brushes. The way you go about this is to: Select your room and click the scope down icon. Your view will change so that the room appears selected and displayed alone. You can now select the individual sides of the room. Try it: select the floor and change it to a floor texture (Select the texture in the texture window, then click apply),
Then select the ceiling and give it another texture. Scope up, save and compile your level and take a look.

This should give you an idea as to how to use the different textures to give your levels more realism, take a look, it will really improve the look.
